Are You Kidding Me?

I now think I have heard the epitome of ridiculousness. This morning on the news they shared the story of the San Diego mayor who has been sexually harassing women in his office for years. One woman was courageous enough to come forward, and it has opened the flood gate for others. And as if that's not bad enough, here's the kicker: he admits he has a problem, he says he is going to get help, but he wants the city of San Diego to pay for his treatment. Please tell me that you just said, "What?!" Yes, he wants them to pay for his treatment because they didn't train him concerning sexual harassment. I almost can't write that line without laughing out loud. I am completely weary of people who do ridiculously immoral things and insist on blaming someone else. I am required by the Horry County School District to take online training on things like bullying, safety, and yes, sexual harassment. But know this: I do not need to take a class to know that everything about sexually harassing someone is wrong. The end. People in power have been using that power for evil since the beginning of time, but more and more we hear those in power doing the evil things and then blaming someone else. Get a grip. Take responsibility for what you did and ask forgiveness. Remove yourself from a position of power if you can't handle it. And don't . . . don't . . . blame the rest of us for what you do. Today I will pray for our leaders to be the heroes and role models we need them to be. I will also pray for patience, that I won't judge but will be forgiving. Lord, let me see past the craziness in our world today, and let me be a light against the darkness, with Your help and Your power.
